Ticket Trader
This year the 4th grade classes will all be using a program called Ticket Trader. It’s a simple behavior incentive program that allows the children to be responsible for their own actions.
Here’s how it works: At the beginning of the week, each child gets 15 tickets (which are taped to the inside of their desks). The number 15 was chosen to represent 3 strikes. If the child is not following the expectations, a ticket is pulled. If the child loses all three tickets in one day, they receive a minor referral. It’s a simple program that aides in running a smooth classroom in which interruptions to learning time are not amplified by the constant stopping of instruction.
At the end of each week, the children will be able to turn their tickets in for computer time. The time ranges from 5 minutes to 20 minutes.
The beauty of this program is the consistency. Since the children learn with all the 4th grade teachers, it’s easy to correct behaviors and enforce consequences quickly since we are all using the same program! Plus, it ties in perfectly with our school wide discipline program. Students are rewarded for positive behaviors and have a consequence with redirection for negative behaviors.
On a final note, I would like to say that we do not expect the students to have all 15 tickets at the end of the week. There will be things that come up and issues that need to be corrected. It’s all part of the learning process!!
